As a boy, his parents had him study icon painting in the Pechersk Monastery with Greek icon painters. He witnessed a miracle when the icon of the Holy Virgin was painted on its own in the altar of this church, when a dove flew out of the mouth of the Virgin and after a long flight around the church flew into the mouth of the icon of the Lord Jesus Christ. Surrendering himself to God, Saint Olympias painted icons all day and never took money for any of them. He was soon ordained as a hieromonk. During his lifetime, he performed miracles: he healed a leper and one blind from birth. Through him, in order to save him from human malice, the Lord manifested the miracle of self-education of icons. These icons remained undamaged when the church they were in burned down. He died in 1114.
