Calendar for January 6 Christmas Eve
On the evening of Christmas Eve, on Christmas Eve, the Christmas tree is lit. This young tree, usually an oak, symbolizes Christ and his entry into the world. The lighting of the Christmas tree represents the warmth of Christ's love. Then, the Christmas tree is a reminder of the wood that the shepherds brought to the cave and that the righteous Joseph laid so that the newborn Christ could warm himself in the cold cave. There is another interpretation: the Christmas tree is a hint of Christ's suffering and His Cross. The straw that is brought into the house is a reminder of the straw from the manger on which the Most Holy Theotokos laid the newborn Lord. The incense with which the house is fumigated, as well as the gifts that are placed in the straw, are a reminder of the gifts that the wise men from the East brought and presented to the Newborn Christ.
