Calendar for July 22 - Priest-martyr Pancratiie
Born in Antioch at the time when the Lord walked the earth. His parents came with him to Jerusalem to see the miracles of Jesus and there they met the apostle Peter. After the ascension of the Lord, all three were baptized. Pancratius retired to a cave in Pontus, where he was found by the apostle Peter and, in agreement with the apostle Paul, made him bishop of Tavromene in Sicily. There Saint Pancratius performed great miracles, destroyed idols, baptized the unbaptized and strengthened the baptized in the faith. Tavromen became a Christian city and Duke Aquilinus went with an army to destroy it. St. Pancratius, with the clergy, went out with the cross in his hand outside the city and the soldiers rioted and killed each other. The Gentiles stoned him to death. His relics are in Rome.
Martyr Kirill, Bishop of Gortyn. Venerable martyrs Patermutia and Kopria. Saint Theodore, Bishop of Edessa. Holy Martyrs Glamočki and Kulenvakufski.
