Calendar for July 29 His Homilitor Antinogen
He was a bishop in Sebastia, in Armenia. He lived in a monastery near the city, with 10 of his disciples. During the persecution under Emperor Diocletian, the wicked torturer Philomarchus came to Sebastia and killed many Christians. When he captured Antinogenus, with his disciples, he told him to offer sacrifice to idols, so that he would not perish like the other Christians. And Antinogenus said to him: “Those whom you call slain have not perished, but are in heaven, rejoicing with the angels.” The hind, whom the merciful Antinogenus fed with his own hand, came to him shedding tears. While they were being tortured with various torments, an angel of God appeared to them. They were all cut down with the sword, first the priests and Antinogenus’ associates, and finally Antinogenus himself. They suffered in the year 311.
