Calendar for November 1st Venerable Prohor of Pčinja

A contemporary of Saint John of Rila and Saint Gabriel of Lesnovo. He was granted by God to his elderly, childless parents, Jovan and Ana. After completing his studies, he withdrew into the wilderness, practicing asceticism in the deserts of Nagoričane and Kozjak. He was discovered by Diogenes, who was pursuing a doe while out hunting. Saint Prohor prophesied to him that he would become emperor—a prophecy that later came true. Subsequently, Emperor Diogenes built a church in Nagoričane, the place where Saint Prohor had first pursued his ascetic life. Later, after discovering the saint’s incorrupt relics—having prayed for them to be revealed to him—he also built a church on the Pčinja River; this site is now the Monastery of Saint Prohor of Pčinja. To this day, the wonderworking, myrrh-streaming relics of this great man of God remain there. Saint Prohor lived his ascetic life and reposed in the 11th century.

Saint Joel the Prophet. Saint Uar the Martyr. Venerable John of Rila.
