Milan Spasić and Sergej Masera ascended to the Kingdom of Heaven, laying down their lives for their loved ones

Organized by Matica Boka, on April 17, the memory of the heroic feat of the heroes of the April War of 1941, Milan Spasić and Sergej Masera, was commemorated. The commemoration at the grave of Milan Spasić was officiated by the archbishop of Herzegnovi, Fr. Obren Jovanovic.
The life story of these two men, Milan and Sergi, shows in the most beautiful way what it means to live the Holy Gospel, Father Obren said, reports RTHN.
- Both were Christians, one Serbian, the other Slovenian, one Orthodox, the other Roman Catholic, sworn to the king, to the fatherland to protect their people and image. They did the greatest thing, laid down their lives for their neighbors. When the order came that they had to leave the ship, Milan told his commander that he would not hand the ship over to the enemy, because he considered the peace agreement as capitulation. In capitulation, the army knows what to do and that the ship will not fire on its own people. In this way, he condemned himself to sacrifice and they ascended to the Kingdom of Heaven, laying down their lives for their loved ones, Jovanović said.
The president of Matica Boka, Mirko Mustur, said that Milan and Sergej's bravery, officer's honor and heroism leave a lasting memory and that when they are mentioned, they also remember other heroes of the April War.
- These are also the pilots who defended the sky of the Kingdom, submariners, sailors who managed to reach Greece, later Egypt and continue to fight on the side of the allies. These are the soldiers who successfully defended the eastern borders of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, managed to penetrate and push the enemy back, Mustur reminded.
We remind you that a few hours after the signing of the capitulation of the Army of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, on April 17, 1941, Spasić and Masera activated explosives in the Tivat Bay on the battleship "Zagreb" so that it would not fall into the hands of the Italian occupiers and fly into the air together with it.
The memorial service was also attended by the Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in Herceg Novi, Mićo Rogović, the president of SPKD "Prosvjeta HN", Olivera Doklestić and Nikša Gojković.
