MOTHERS IN THE CHURCH OF ST. VASILIJE OSTROŠKI IN DOBROTA
On the second Sunday before Christmas, the Sunday of the Forefathers, we celebrate Mothers – the feast of mothers and women. On this feast, in our services, we commemorate all the forefathers of the people of God, from Adam to Joseph, the betrothed of Mary. We also commemorate all the prophets who preached about Christ, from Samuel to John the Baptist.
This wonderful feast is part of a three-week cycle of feasts celebrated before Christmas: Children – Mothers – Fathers, and it is at the center of this cycle, just as the mother is at the center of the family, as the guardian of the hearth and family love, as the one who connects everything, as a link and a spiritual bridge, since she is called to this very purpose by her calling.
"May the Holy Mother of God protect all mothers and, God willing, let us welcome the Father, and then Christmas Day and Christmas," said Archpriest-Staurophor Milenko Jekić at today's Holy Liturgy in the Church of St. Basil of Ostrog in Dobrota.
The Circle of Serbian Sisters of Kotor today presented gifts to children after the Liturgy.
