Calendar for November 7 Holy Martyrs Macrianus and Martinius
After the repose of Emperor Constantine the Great, the Aryan heresy gained momentum again, and Emperor Constantius himself was inclined towards it. Through the influence of two court nobles, Eusebius and Philip, ardent Arians, Patriarch Paul of Constantinople was exiled to Armenia, where he was drowned by the Arians. Marcianus was a reader, and Martinius a subdeacon at the cathedral church, and they were scribes to Patriarch Paul. The two of them stood up for Orthodoxy in the conflict with the heretics. The Arians first tried to bribe them, and when they refused with contempt, they sentenced them to death. They went to the execution site with their hands raised, triumphantly, praying and thanking God. They were beheaded in 355. A church was built over their relics by Saint John Chrysostom.
Holy Martyr Anastasius. Saint Tabitha.
